Where you can use your images

The rules each platform sets for product images, with their sources.

Renders and photos

Your images are renders of the print as sliced, not photos of a printed object. Some marketplaces ask for photos of the actual item, at least for the main image, so check the rules of the place you post.

Platform by platform

  • Etsy: Etsy requires your own photos of the actual item, not renderings. A personalized or custom item may add computer-generated mockups of its options after a real first photo. Its rules (opens in a new tab).
  • Amazon: The main image must be a photo of the product on pure white, and Amazon Handmade requires a photograph. Use renders for the other gallery images. Its rules (opens in a new tab).
  • eBay: No added borders, text or watermarks, and the photo must show the item accurately. Its rules (opens in a new tab).
  • Google Shopping: Google wants the main image on a plain white background and doesn't accept illustrations there. Photoreal renders are a gray area, so use them as additional images. Its rules (opens in a new tab).
  • MakerWorld: MakerWorld also requires at least one real photo of the print. Renders can be the cover and gallery images. Its rules (opens in a new tab).
  • Facebook: Shop images must show the exact product, with no text or watermarks. Meta advises a white backdrop. Its rules (opens in a new tab).
  • Pinterest: In light mode Pinterest lays a 4% dark layer over white and near-white backgrounds, so light backdrops look slightly gray there. Its rules (opens in a new tab).
  • TikTok: For regular posts only: TikTok Shop doesn't allow digital renderings in product images. Its rules (opens in a new tab).

Platforms change their rules: these were read from their own pages. The platforms library has each one's image sizes.

Your own shop, posts and model pages

On your own shop, your social posts and your model pages, the choice is yours. Renders are a good way to show every color a design comes in.
